Bodybuilding VS Scrum

For those of you who don’t know me I am passionate about sports – especially strength increasing sports. (and for those of you who know me – I’m still passionate about sports :) I exercise at least 5 days a week. Usually I work-out in the morning, just to be in a hurry later for our daily stand-up, and the last time on my way to work I’ve been thinking about all the similarities and differences between bodybuilding and Scrum… sounds interesting, right?

Fitness plan * Workout schedule * Exercises * Diet & supplements * Commit to plan; Sprint planning * User stories * Acceptance criteria * Risks, issues and dependencies * Commit to sprint goal

Pre-workout * Eat / drink pre-workout stuff * Put gym outfit * Warm up exercises * Plan sets / reps; Daily stand-up * Gather everybody / coffee * Warm up with joke and/or general info * Go over the items and the daily planning

Workout * Exercises / sets & reps * Get help from a fellow when needed; Sprint day * Work on tasks / stories * Get help from a fellow when needed

Adjust * Different muscle groups focus * Different exercises / diet / supplements; Grooming * Discuss future stories * Estimate / break-down / combine

Review results * Measure muscle mass * Measure fat percentage * Measure strength increase; Sprint review * Review stories done * Approve / disapprove * Discuss future improvements

Lessons learned * Reflect on what works well and improvements * Read new info * Try new stuff * Recognise your achievements; Retrospective * Reflect on good and improvements * Try new stuff * Present some cool stuff * Recognise achievements

Not everything is alike, and Bodybuilding is mainly solo activity while Scrum is all about team effort. Nevertheless the fundamentals are comparable:
* Iterate to continuously improve your product / body & strength
* Focus, self-organisation, discipline, determination, flexibility, learn from mistakes - are all major traits

p.s. looks like I’m much better in both bodybuilding & Scrum compared to hand-drawing :)
